Ecommerce Brands Answer

How can I tell whether AI is merely mentioning my product or actually recommending it?

If AI only names your product, you were mentioned. If it explains why your product fits the buyer's need and points the buyer toward it as a good choice, you were recommended. Those are not the same result.

Question 8 of 10Topic: Measuring Product RecognitionPublished Sep. 24, 2026JB-reviewed Sep. 24, 2026

Your product can appear and still lose the sale

A buyer asks for the best gift for an elderly parent who is always cold.

AI lists five blankets. Yours is number three.

That feels good until you notice that AI explains why another blanket is easy to wash, light to handle, and popular as a gift.

Your product got a name. The competitor got a reason.

Here is the simple difference

  • Mentioned: your name appears
  • Cited: AI points to your page or information
  • Compared: AI discusses you beside another option
  • Recommended: AI says you may be a good choice for this need and gives a reason

Do not count every appearance as a win

If you only track whether your name showed up, you can miss the difference between being present and being persuasive.

The reason AI gives matters.

Ask the better question

Do not ask only, “Did my product appear?”

Ask, “Did AI explain why my product belongs in this buyer's decision?”

That is the movement ProEcomm wants to see.
